Leary Is In Algiers

Timothy Leary, former professor of clinical psychology at Harvard, now on the FBI's ten-most-wanted list, is alive and well in Algiers, Yippies announced at a press conference yesterday afternoon in front of the Center for International Affairs.

And the government of Algieria announced last night in Algiers that Leary has been granted political asylum. Leary escaped Sept. 12 from prison in San Luis Obispo, Calif., where he was serving a ten-year term for possession of marijuana.

The Associated Press reported that Leary plans to work with the Algiers office of the Black Panther Party, opened recently by Panther information minister Eldridge Cleaver, who fled there to keep from being returned to prison by his parole board.

"Today we're here in front of the OFLA war target because we dig the dynamite job done by the Proud Eagle Tribe," said one of the five Yippie women who called the Harvard press conference.

The Yippie spokesman said that Leary has become a Yippie and that he supports a rally for Angela Davis, former philosophy professor accused of assisting in the murder of a California judge, to be held Saturday at the Women's House of Detention in New York, where Davis is currently being held without ball.

The Yippies said they, too, are planning an action somewhere in Boston in support of Davis this Saturday, but refused to discuss any details. They said they would provide more information later this week.

"We're not trying to push a riot," one of them said. "We just want to have a party."
