The Harvard salling team won its second major trophy in two weeks as Abbott Reeve and Charlie Koch turned in strong performances in the C. Sherman Hoyt Trophy at Brown Sunday. The Crimson could only manage a fourth however in the New England Sloop Championships Saturday and Sunday at the Coast Guard Academy.

In the Hoyt Trophy, a major intersectional, Reeve, with John Roberts as crew, ran away with division A, and Koch, with Dave Little crewing, was disqualified in division B's first race and had to turn in a clutch performance in the next four races to take low-point skipper honors.

Going into the fifth and final race, Harvard led Columbia by only three points, but Reeve and Koch both finished ahead of the Lion entries to assure the victory. The Crimson finished with 34 points to 45 for Columbia and 47 for Brown.

The Harvard sloop crew, skippered by captain Joe Worth, was hampered by the absence of spinnaker-man Dong Allen, who was taking Law Boards. Rud Istvan took his place joining John Bowers and Phil DeNormandie on the crew.

Although the Crimson steadily improved throughout the regatta, it finished fourth with 24 points behind the University of Rhode Island with 18 points, Yale with 19, and M. I. T. with 20.

"The wind was blowing hard-about 35 miles an hour with 50-mile-an-hour gusts," Worth said last night. "When Tufts's sloop blew over it was the first time a boat had capsized in the event in seven years."

The sailing team won a heptagonal at Bowdoin on Saturday, as skipper George Putnam and Doug Libby won their three races in Division A. Division B was canceled after the rescue boat tipped over in the process of helping a capsized competitor.
