The Penn football team has apparently not suffered any major morale problems as the result of the quitting of four players last week.
The Quakers downed Lafayette, 31-20, Saturday. In an effort to strengthen team unity, captain Jim Fuddy awarded the game ball to coach Bob Odell.
The four who left the team-three of them black sophomores-denied that there had been racial problems.
The group included halfback Ron Dawson, the team's leading ground-gainer for the season. The others were end Tom Corbin, safety Marion Roberts and junior linebacker John Brinjac.
Dawson said he lost interest in football over the summer and showed up for preseason camp out of shape. He quit saying, "I just don't want to play football anymore."
Brinjac, who started for the Quakers in their opening win against Lehigh but since has been demoted, said in a Daily Pennsylvanian story, "I really love to play football, but not for those guys."
"Basically, the coaches don't know what formula equals win," he added.
Roberts and Conbin both felt they had not been playing enough.
