A new magazine called Foreign Policy father of a New York University student a partial tuition refund Wednesday because the school cancelled class during the Cambodia strike last May.
Roger Paynter sued the school on behalf of his son for violating its contractual obligations by failing to hold classes.
He saw the decision as a test case which could open the "floodgates" for all those students across the country denied classes in May.
Last spring Laszlo Pasztor '73, head of H-R YAF, threatened to sue Harvard for breach of contract if classes were officially cancelled.
He expressed his approval of the ruling last night, saying it was about time the universities were forced to "stiffen their spines against the onslaught of those who would try to coerce the university to their wills."
Unlike NYU, however, no legal action can be taken against Harvard.
"This ruling is not applicable to Harvard," Dean May said. "since we never officially cancelled our classes."
