Columbia Surprises Football Team, 28-21

Columbia gave Harvard captain Gary Farneti a beer mug celebrating the Lions' centennial season of football before the game, and the Harvard fans snickered. Columbia hadn't beaten Harvard in nine years, nor had they beaten too many other teams in the last 100 years.

Last Saturday, Columbia earned a little revenge. The Lions beat Harvard 28-21, and the score should have been worse. The Crimson trailed 28-7 with four minutes left in the game.

Unimaginative play calling, a possible mistake by the coaches, penalties, and a very good Columbia sophomore quarterback combined to unseat the previously unbeaten Crimson.

Harvard captain Gary Farneti also attributed the loss to emotional factors. Columbia was unquestionably up for the game. Harvard was not.
