Cambridge is still without a mayor.
In balloting Monday night, the City Council remained unable to agree on one of its number to fill the post. The council majority of five councillors endorsed by the Cambridge Civic Association (CCA) continued to split its votes between CCA councillors Thomas Coates and Thomas H. D. Mahoney.
After two ballots, the council voted to recess until next Monday night "and to stay here then until we elect a mayor." One of the councillors who voted for the motion noted that, if further balloting then failed to produce a mayor, the council could vote to go home anyway.
A ruling by the City Solicitor allows the council to conduct normal business in the absence of a mayor. Acting City Clerk Paul E Healy is chairing the meetings.
