Although Cornell virtually wrapped up its fifth consecutive Ivy League hockey title last Saturday by defeating Harvard, 3-1, the Crimson still has a mathematical chance of at least sharing the championship- but someone else will have to help.
Brown, the only other League team that has a realistic chance of dumping Cornell, has already lost to the Big Red in overtime at Providence. so both the Bruins and Harvard must whip Cornell at Ithaca. And that hasn't been done by anybody since 1965. so Harvard may just have to be content with second place.
Cornell has ripped Yale, 8-1 at Ithaca, in addition to its triumphs at Brown and Harvard, and is alone at the top of the League standings.
Harvard, which is 2-2 in Ivy competition, ranks second, but only Brown's 6-6 tie with Princeton last week- highly unexpected by both teams- is keeping the Crimson there unmolested.
Yale and Dartmouth. which have both beaten Penn, are tied for fourth with 1-1 records. Princeton is sixth at 0-0-1, and Penn, winless in two starts is last.
