Glimp's Election Hangs In Storm

Yesterday's snowstorm tied up communications in Belmont, delaying word on the local election in which Dean Glimp is running for the town's school committee.

Despite the poor weather conditions, Belmont election officials reported a large voter turnout. Many of the ballot counters, however, were unable to get to work, causing the tabulating delay.

But John Hanify '71, recently elected president of the HUC and a Belmont resident, predicted yesterday that Glimp would have "no difficulty" in winning the election.

Glimp has four children in the Belmont school system. A central theme of his campaign has been the need to make better use of the town's $4 million school budget. He has proposed, for example, that the schools be open during the sum-for greater use by recreation and education projects.

During the campaign, Glimp frequently pointed out that "it took a fire in the high school" to get the town to replace the building with a modern one.
