University policemen will increase their patrols around Quincy House in response to a request by the House Committee. Robbers have struck Quincy five times in the last three weeks.

"The problem with thefts started in the middle of last term, but it has gotten really bad in the last few weeks," Kirby C. Wilcox 70, committee chairman, said.

Robert Tonis, chief of University police, said that at the committee's request, the force may also begin to patrol inside the buildings. The police do not ordinarily patrol inside a House unless specifically asked, he said.

Wilcox estimated the total value of the losses at bout $5000. Missing items include stereo equipment, television, records, and clothes.

The House Committee has been putting up posters encouraging residents to lock their doors. "At first the signs were ignored, but as the thefts got more serious, more people began to lock up," Wilcox said. He added that in each of the recent thefts the room had been unlocked.
