Group Helps GI's In War Protests

Thirty Harvard students formed an adjunct to the GI-Civilian Alliance for Peace (GI-CAP) this week to promote anti-war demonstrations by servicemen in seven U.S. cities.

The students will talk to servicemen at airports, bus depots, and train stations around Boston to promote the April 6 demonstration in New York. The demonstrations will be patterned after last April's demonstration in San Francisco which drew 500 servicemen.

"We recognize the enormous disaffection with the war inside the armed forces," John Barman '69, a spokesman for the group, said yesterday. "GI-CAP is trying to encourage GI's to exercise their constitutional right of free speech," he added.

Barzman said the demonstration in planned for Easter Sunday because it is more difficult for the army to revoke leaves at that time. "Underground newspapers in a dozen bases are promoting this demonstration," he said.
