The following is a statement released last night by Cheyney C. Ryan '69-4 and Judy Kauffman '70:

The University feels it can cover up its racist practices through intimidation. Last week they temporarily suspended members of OBU, and now they have suspended 16 students and punished eight more for the sit-in at Dean May's office.

This punishment is nothing compared to the oppression that Harvard workers face every day on the job; nothing compared to the suffering Harvard creates through the destruction of Cambridge's and Boston's poor and working-class neighborhoods.

We as students must recognize how seriously Harvard defends its racist policies; and we must recognize the importance of the struggles of black peoples for decent jobs and homes.

We appeal to all students and faculty to join the fight for these demands, and to fight repression of both black and white students who have initiated the struggle.
