While Harvard is playing against some of the local talent today, half of the Ivy League will start league play. The feature at Baker Field in New York will be Columbia and Princeton, but chances are that the majority of the city's sports fans will be part of the living room set since the Mets will be on television.

Penn and Brown will be matched on the Astro Turf in the other Ivy opener. Expect a split in the non-league games. Expect me to be wrong. I picked Princeton by a touchdown last week. I flattered Yale by predicting a tie. If I make a few tash choices, understand that I'm upset. My Mount Kisko centennial pennant just fell off the wall.

COLUMBIA-PRINCETON: Rest assured that the Tigers have been working their tails off, so to speak. after their humiliation last Saturday. It seems a certainty that they'll get their first points of the season against Columbia today. The Lions should be flushed with success after their narrow 14 point loss last week. Princeton will be hungry, and more used to the new offense. I'd say something like 33-7 for Princeton is close.

PENN-BROWN: Most people probably expect a rout here. but I can confidently say that Brown will lose by a respectable margin. You'll probably notice me championing Brown this fall. Both these colleges are rebuilding their football programs, but the Quakers are a bit farther along. The Bruins looked sure of themselves Saturday, and Penn is just not big on psyche this year. Brown will have a strong first half. but Pehn will come late in the game to win. 28-14. It will help make up for the cross country loss.

CORNELL-RUTGERS: The Big Red might just as well stay in the locker room and pop zits. If Cornell decides to go through with the game. it will be a very sad sight. Remember when, Teen Angel went back to get that high school ring after the car stalled on the railroad tracks? Well. how much of a chance did she have to live when the train hit her? That's about how much of a chance Cornell has to win today. My guess is 42-7.

DARTMOUTH-HOLY CROSS: I'm afraid it looks like another sad and lonely night in Worcester. Dartmouth is coming fast, and Holy Cross still has some bugs to get but of its performance. It will even be played in Hanover. The Big Green has too much of everything, including halfback Bob Mlaker. Mlakar's leg was broken in the game with the Crusaders last year. and he may want to make up for lost time. Dartmouth, 28-7

YALE-COLGATE: After last week's loss to UConn. coach Carm Cozza said, "We had some trouble offensively." Carm certainly didn't overstate the situation. and if Cornell couldn't beat Colgate, there's no reason to think Yale can. The Red Raiders have this runner named Dom Fisher, who is going to make Saturday embarrassing for the Elis. But actually this could be the closest game today. Linda Scott's advice is well taken here-Don't bet money, honey. But I pick Colgate, 17-14.

HARVARD-B.U.: It's Family Day. Despite that, the Crimson is the favorite. The Terriers, who are 2-0 appear to have a strong set of runners and good defense. Of course, the runners are going to have to find a way to get by people like Ed Sadler. Gary Farneti, Dale Neal, and their friends. Two linebackers who may slow down Harvard's rushing a bit are Pat Hughes and Fritz McNeily. listed in the B.U. sports book as a "solid ballplayer." Tight for awhile, but then Frank Champi is likely to surprise us. Watch out for a lot of Crimson passing and a lot of Crimson cheering about a 21-7 victory.

BRAVES-METS: Felix Millan, Tony Gonzalez, and Rico Carty are hot. The Braves are my favorite team. There is no question that Tom Seaver is a fine pitcher, but Atlanta will knock some of the glitter off him by winning. 4-3. I'd bet my autographed picture of Jonny Logan and my Joe Torre autograph on it.
