Junior Jon Gorham of Leverett realized on of his wildest dreams and Adams accomplished perhaps the greatest intramural feat in its history, in Thursday afternoon's House cross-country meet at Soldiers Field.

Gorham, who finished second as a freshman and second as a sophomore, ran in the lead with last year's winner, have Truesdell, for the first half of the two-mile course. Then Gorham pulled away with the wind at his back and won by over 100 yards, Leverett the defending champion, had to settle for third though.

Three Adams runners finished in the top ten and none of Adams' top ten harriers finished below 50th, as the usually down-and-out house won the meet and standed the athletic world Adams' point total of 214 was noticeably better than the 712 points it compiled last year in a last-place performance.

Athletic secretary Dan Levin is largely responsible for Adams' success, since he made a big effort to recruit talent. "It had to be an outstanding team effort." Levin raved, "We figured we'd be third."

Kiss From Kearns

Unlike other secretaries. Levin had no gimmicks Dunster House advertised a beer party after the race and a Doris Kearns kiss for Dunster's highest finisher. The strategy failed miserably, however.

Alan Long and John Goldhon earned second and third for Adams, ahead of Truesdell. The other top ten finishers were: Gerald Brock, Quincy: Ben Lounsbury. Lowell: Tom Huntsberger, Winthrop: Rick Otness. Quincy; Ray Healey Leverett: and Herb Ross, Adams.

Gorham was elated after his victory. "This is the highlight of my season," Gorham, who runs fall track, said. "Today I channeled my powers of concentration."

Lowell was a distant second in the race, in which 125 runners participated despite temperatures in the low 40'S Floyd Wilson director of intramural athletics, officiated.
