Harvard still ranks first in New England football in the Associated Press weekly poll. Boston College and Dartmouth were again second and third, but they were closer to the Crimson in total points this time than they were a week ago.
Half of the 18 ballots listed Harvard first, five chose B.C. for the top spot, and the other four favored Dartmouth. Despite the Crimson's clear plurality in terms of first-place votes, its point total of 164 was only two higher than B.C.'s.
The improved showings in the poll from the Eagles and Dartmouth were due to convincing performances last weekend. B.C. downed a highly-rated Navy team, 21-14, and Dartmouth triumphed with surprising ease over New Hampshire, 31-0.
Harvard, though winning and showing strength both offensively and defensively, did not play exceptionally well. Holy Cross, despite the loss, moved up from tenth to eighth in the poll.
The Crimson's opponent this Saturday. Boston University, ranks fourth in the six-state area, but there is a big drop in point totals from third to fourth place. The Terriers, with a 2-0 record were fifth last week.
Brown, victors by a 21-0 score over Rhode Island, edged into the top ten, ranking tenth. The others listed were Connecticut, fifth: Massachusetts, sixth: Yale, seventh: and Northeastern, ninth.
The five sports writers for the Daily Pennsylvanian made their ?vy League title predictions public a few days ago. Three picked Penn first, one chose Princeton, and one saga?ious picker selected Harvard.
Otherwise the Crimson ranked fourth once, third twice, and second once.
