Crimson Skaters Favored to Down Luckless Bruins in Return Game

Harvard's varsity hockey team plays the first of five consecutive Ivy League games tonight when if faces Brown at 8 p.m. Watson Rink.

The last time the Crimson met the Bruins it staged a three goal blitz in the final period to tie 7-7 in regulation time. Jack Turco scored an overtime goal for the 8-7 victory over an underdog Brown team.

"We weren't up for that game," Coach Cooney Weiland said last night, "and they took advantage of it."

Harvard could very easily be over-confident for tonight's game if it had not had such last an unexpectedly rough time in its last outing. The Bruins have had little luck since Harvard shocked them with its come-from-behind victory, not winning a single game.

In the E.C.A.C. Christmas tournament in New York, Brown lost to Yale in the opening round and then tied a weak Dartmouth squad in the consolation game. It has also dropped its last two games, losing to Colorado College and R.P.I. by close margins.

Although not up to Bruin teams of the last two years, it is nonetheless a dangerous team. Junior Curt Bennett is the premiere defenseman in the Ivy League. He teams with burly Steve Wormith in the starting defensive unit and is capable of carrying the puck the full length of the ice for a score.

They complement Brown's two goalies, Mark Burns and Don McGinniss, who are equally effective and alternate each game. Burns has played the last two games because McGinniss has been ill, but it is uncertain whether he will start again tonight.

Brown's strength at defense has been Harvard's weakness. "We need to tighten up in our own zone." Weiland said. 'We hay have been too offensively-minded and we've suffered for it."

Weiland plans no changes at defense for tonight, but he did indicate that George Murphy will "see action" with Jack Turco and Dwight Ware in Chip Otness's position.

The game will be broadcast by WHRB at 8 p.m. at 95.3 on your F.M. dial, but tickets are still available at the ticket office.

The freshmen will go against the Bruins in an afternoon game at 4 p.m. in Watson Rink. The contest will be their first since they faced Northeastern before Christmas.
