Harvard's super strong cross country team opens its 1968 season at Franklin Park today against Northeastern. It should not be a difficult test, although the Huskies did have a swift freshman squad last year.
Senior Doug Hardin will lead the Crimson. But who will finish after the bearded captain is unsure. Sophomores Dave Pottetti and Tom Spangler have been impressive through early season practices, and Coach Bill McCurdy has a number of lettermen back, including senior Tim McLoone and juniors Ray Shaw and John Heyburn.
Last year Harvard won all seven of its dual meets as well as the Heptagonal and Big Three Championships. This year's team, barring injuries, is expected to do well and perhaps to challenge Villanova for Eastern supremacy.
The meet this afternoon begins at 4 p.m. with the freshmen running first at 3 p.m.
