Ron Winfield has been elected to lead next year's fencing team to coach Edo Marion's promised national championship.
Winfield had a spectacular season this year. He led Harvard's varsity fencers with a 11-4 Ivy record in saber and captured a berth on the All-Ivy team.
Despite Winfield's showing, the fencers finished in the Ivy cellar.
Winfield sees only success for next year's team. Citing the number of sophomores and juniors on the varsity this year and the outstanding freshman team, Winfield confidently echoed Marion's prediction: "Next year we'll be National Champions."
