Winthrop House goes into the finals of the Intramural Wrestling championships today certain to take team honors. Winthrop has eight men wrestling in the finals compared to four for Quincy House, three for Leverett, and two each for Lowell and Dudley House.
The way team points are given out, first place in a weight class gets five points and second place gets three. So even if Winthrop House loses all its matches, it will still get more total points than its closest competitor.
Five fights shape up to be the best of this afternoon's finals that get underway at 3:30 p.m. on the fourth floor of the IAB.
In the 123-lb, weight class, Ken Hurwitz (Leverett) who had the fastest pin in last year's matches, will meet Jeff Eustis of Lowell. In the 130-lb. division, Barry Finer (Winthrop) and Bill Diercks (Quincy) will meet.
The unlimited class in both the House and freshman matches promise two more close contests. The House bout will pit Ed Stump of Leverett against Denis Loring of Quincy, while the freshman heavyweights are Dave Sellinger and Eric Honick.
The other freshman match that should be close is the 130-lb. fight between Chris Kellogg and Roy Mendelsohn.
