Design Students Submit Proposal

The Design School Student-Faculty Committee voted unanimously yesterday to resubmit its curriculum proposal for 12 required courses and 12 electives to the Faculty Council. The Council rejected the proposal last Friday in favor of a 14-12 split.

In addition to returning its original proposal to the Council the Student-Faculty Committee also agreed to try to inform the students of existing possibilities for independent study in the Design School curriculum. As of now only three out of 56 students are in the program.

Both students and faculty emphasized the fact that the proposals under consideration are only an interim step until a long range program can be developed next year.

James Stockard, a third-year design student, said the committee meeting came down to bickering over the middle ground. He said that there was general agreement that it was "a little silly to play the numbers game."

The meeting also decided on a town meeting to explain to the Design students exactly what their options are.
