A graduate student in Chemistry was injured yesterday by an explosion in his Mallinckrodt laboratory.
Doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital said Pat N. Confalone was in "satisfactory" condition last night, following an operation for facial injuries suffered in the blast.
Confalone was apparently working on a distillation experiment when the explosion occurred, shortly after 3 p.m. It shattered his apparatus and a fluorescent light in the lab. He was alone in the room at the time. Lab workers estimated the damage at $20.
