George Clemens, defensive line coach at Boston College for the last six seasons, will join the Harvard football staff on March 1, Adolph W. Samborski '25, Director of Athletics, announced Sunday.
Clemens will work with the defensive line under head coach, John M. Yovicsin. "I've known George ever since he's been in Boston," Yovicsin said, "and I'm extremely happy to have him join our staff. He has an excellent background and a fine record of accomplishment."
Clemens, 38, is a native of Lafayette, Ind., where he graduated from Jefferson High School in 1947 after lettering in football, basketball, and baseball. He played the same three sports at Purdue before graduating as a physical education major in 1952.
Clemens went into high school coaching in three Michigan schools for the next eight years, during which time he received a Masters in physical education from Purdue in 1956. In 1960, he was named offensive line coach at the University of Detroit, a position he held until January, 1962, when he came with head coach Jim Miller to Boston College.
