Band Reactivates Wind Ensemble

The Harvard University Band has voted to activate a 35-man wind ensemble, which will include Cliffes, as an integral part of the band.

In the past the wind ensemble operated as a pick-up group, with various members of the Cambridge community taking part in its infrequent concerts. It will now perform a concert series in Cambridge with a regular membership of 35 men and women.

"Cliffies can really play well," director James Walker said last week, explaining the band's decision. The wind ensemble will perform chamber music more difficult than the Concert Band's repertoire, Walker said.

The decision will not affect the 130members marching band, which plays at football games, or the 55-piece concert band, which performs a series of concerts throughout the winter, plays for Commencement and other University activities, and conducts concert tours.
