Fine Arts Overflows; Lecture Passes Issued

If you planned to audit Fine Arts 13 this semester, forget it. 415 students--80 more than last year--have signed up for the course so far and there are only 398 seats in the Fogg Norton Lecture Hall.

Benjamin Rowland Jr., Gleason Professor of Fine Arts, announced yesterday that passes will be issued to students taking the course for credit. Section men will check them for admission to lectures.

Fire Regulations

Fire regulations which prohibit standing and overcrowding compelled Rowland and head section man David Van Fossen to institute this measure. It seems no larger lecture room is available.

Rowland attributed the increased attendance to growing interest in art history, the new pass-fail system, and the course's favorable write up in the Confidential Guide. He said he likes auditors and expressed "regret at having to take this step."
