Beset by injuries to several key players, Harvard's varsity soccer team hits New York today for its Ivy League opener with Columbia on Saturday.

Fullback Bob Gray, who suffered a hard collision in Wednesday's game with Wesleyan, appears not to have sustained any serious head injury and has, according to coach Bruce Munro, "only a real bad headache." Gray will remain in Faulkner Hospital another day for observation before being moved to the Stillman Infirmary. He may be ready for action by next week.

Outside right Gerry Montero aggravated a groin injury and will play sparingly. Right halfback John Gordon and his substitute Bezo Cutler both have sprained ankles. Together they may be able to operate effectively for perhaps half of the game.

Fullback Bill Brock, who plays opposite Gray, might remain in Cambridge and is also counted a doubtful starter.

Faced with so many injuries, Munro deplored the increasing trend to roughness in soccer yesterday. He express hope that Hilary Worthen, a former regular, and Rollin McClain, who has progressed rapidly this fall, will be able to fill the gaps at fullback. Columbia is "always a headache," he said.

Despite the injuries, Munro was buoyed by the greatly improved team work of his explosive front line last week against a much tougher foe than Columbia should be.
