Harvard skiers faced top national competition in both nordic and alpine events last weekend.

At the Hanover (N.H.) Invitational Cross-Country Relays on Saturday, Harvard's three man team--Captain John Mitchell. Steve Hinkle, and Marty Zeller--placed 16th in a field of 38. Seven of the teams were fresh from the Olympic cross-country team tryouts held in Putney. Vt. last week. Both Hinkle and Mitchell had participated in the Olympic trial races.

On Sunday Mitchell led his teammates with a third place in Class "C" at the Hanover Invitational Jumping Meet. Nordic skiers Bob Gooden and Jim Wolf placed 6th and 7th among the "C" jumpers, revealing welcome depth on the nordic team.

In alpine action Mike Cook placed 16th in the combined standings for the Corcoran Cup--a series of three giant slalom races held at Waterville Valley, N.H. The field of over 90 racers featured members of the national "B" team and of the Eastern Alpine squad. In the first race on Saturday two freshmen, Alan Watson and Jay O'Rear, finished 10th and 12th.

Women's Division

In the women's division of the Corcoran Cup, comprised of only two races, Cliffie skier Robin Barnes placed 5th and 11th for a combined standing of 6th.

Both Harvard and Radcliffe teams head north after exams for intersession training camps. Harvard goes to its first intercollegiate meet--the St. Lawrence Carnival--on Feb. 2 and 3.
