Compulsory meetings for Radcliffe freshmen on the effects of marijuana and LSD will be conducted by three Health Center psychiatrists beginning today.

Upperclassmen are invited and freshmen are required to attend the three meetings--one for each Radcliffe House. To promote uninhibited discussion, no head residents of dormitories or members of the Administration may attend.

The program, initiated by the House President who requested aid from the Radcliffe Administration, will consist of informal discussions on "what pot means in terms of adolescent culture and relationships," said Dr. Paul Walters, a psychiatrist at the Health Center. Walters is considering a separate meeting for the Residents in the Houses.

Upperclassmen are not required to attend the meetings, said Judith Mumma '69, president of East House, because "they have already made the decision about drug use in the Harvard community." Most read the same information which the freshmen will hear at the meetings, Miss Mumma said.

Meetings will take place in the auditorium at Hilles Library as follows: Dr. Preston K. Mentor from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, North House; Walters from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, South House; Dr. Graham Blaine from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, East House.

Valters said that there was a similar session held for Harvard College freshmen last year at the request of Yard proctors.
