Rostropovich's Bow Taken at Rehearsal

A priceless cello bow, belonging to Soviet cellist Mstislav Rostropivich, was stolen Sunday at the musician's open rehearsal at Sanders Theatre. The bow, made out of tortoise shell with gold trim, was a gift from Gregor Piatagorsky, another world-famous cellist. Inscribed on it are "sartory" and "made especially for Mr.Piatagorsky."

Mr. Rostropovich gave a benefit concert Monday evening for the Harvard Summer School and the Cambridge Summer School and the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra. The bow has great sentimental value.

The bow may be returned to the Harvard Information Center in Holyoke Center, wrapped up and addressed to the Summer School. No questions will be asked.
