The Harvard sailing team won one regatta and came in seventh in another but its Radcliffe counterpart came through the weekend untarnished and with the Powder Puff Trophy in tow.
The Harvard victory was scored in the Finn Invitational, held twice each year on the Charles to determine single handed superiority in fast, planing-type Boats. The Crimson, perennially strong in this event, had clinched the victory in the ten-team field when four of the five races had been completed.
Jim Harper was high-point skipper of his decision with one first, two seconds, and two thirds. In the other division, Paul Berger sailed to two firsts, a second, and a fifth.
In the girls' race at Wakefield R.I., Jane Chalmers and crew Martha Fransson scudded to a one-point victory over M.I.T. which was skippered by New England's top-ranked woman sailor. The victory in the eight-school field established Radcliffe as the boat to beat in the upcoming Seven Sisters Regatta at Princeton next weekend.
Harvard's seventh place finish came in the Boston Dinghy Club competition held at the Coast Guard Academy. Tony Parker put in Harvard's only good performance as the Crimson finished in the middle of the 13-boat fleet.
