The Harvard golf team built its record to 4-1 yesterday with victories over Williams and Boston College at the Charles River Country Club in Newton Centre.

The wins at B.C's home course in a match postponed from last week, got the Crimson golfers off to their best start in recent years.

Bruce Lopucki at number one and captain Brain McGuinn at number five were the only double winners in the triangular match.

Number three man Paul Oldfield matched. McGuinn's 3 and 2 score over his Williams opponent and seven man Roger Wales added a 2 up decision to Lopucki's narrow 1 up triumph to provide the 4-3 margin over the Ephmen.

The win over B.C. reflected the complexities of a triangular match, where players travel in threesomes engaged in two unrelated match rounds simultaneously. The three men who lost to their Williams opponents all beat their Eagle foes for a 5-2 score.

Bo Keefe shot an impressive 75 in the light rain and won at number two, 1 up. Tom Wynne at four and Bob Sinclair at seven scored 1 and 3 and 2 and 1 victories, respectively.

Williams and B.C. contributed losses to Harvard's 8-7 record last year; so yesterday's reversals were encouraging signs to the optimistic linkmen who have been beaten by only powerful Navy.

The golf team plays at Holy Cross Thursday, then goes to New York for an important triangular match with Columbia and Penn.
