The Cambridge Corporation has decided to give $600 to each of the City's six anti-poverty planning teams in a unique experiment in community development.
What makes this program unusual is that the Corporation will allow the planning teams to spend the money in any manner they wish. Normally grants to anti-poverty groups carry strick guidelines on the permissible use of the funds.
Must Match Funds
The planning teams, made up of local residents, will be required to raise funds privately to match the Corporation's grants.
A private, non-profit organization, the Cambridge Corporation was founded nine months ago to help initiate a wide variety of programs for the development of Cambridge. Both Harvard and M.I.T. are represented on the board.
The program will be jointly sponsored by the Cambridge Economic Opportunity Committee.
