Top government lawyers from Latin America, Asia, and Africa arrived in Cambridge over the weekend to participate in what is probably the first intensive study-institute for lawyers from developing nations.
For the next four weeks, the 18 lawyers will study a variety of topics in international law at the Harvard Law School.
A large part of the program's impact may simply come from the large amount of time the men spend with each other, According to Abram Chayes, professor of law and co-director of the program.
"To me, one of the most important things is that these people will get to know each other. They share a common profession and they should be responding to similar problems with a common outlook Chayes, former legal advisor of the State Department, said.
