The Crimson field performers will give the track squad its second straight outdoor victory at Princeton today, but the runners will be the men worth watching.
Walt Hewlett, who rebounded spectacularly against Brown last week with a 9:16 two-mile in his first race in ten months, will be tested by a good Tiger long distance contingent. Rich Geisel, who finished second to Harvard's Jim Baker indoors, will lead Howiett's opposition.
Baker should have his hands full in the mile against fellow sophomore Werner Endrikat. The Tiger runner lost the decision indoors when Baker posted a fast, 4:12.5 clocking, but he could reverse that order this afternoon.
Endrikat should also run the 880, and, if he does, he will be the strong favorite. Brown's Jim Wich pulled away from a lead-footed Harvard contingent in the stadium last weekend.
The star runner of this Princeton squad was supposed to be 880-man Terrence O'-Keeffe, the class of the Ivy middle distance corps. But O'Keeffe dropped out of school in February, giving Tiger opponents a temporary glimmer of hope.
Princeton's two-mile relay team put an end to the wishful thinking with a 7:29 clocking during the squad's spring trip.
Unfortunately for Nassau, the Tiger sprinters don't match the long and middle distance runners, and the field performers don't even match the sprinters.
Jon Morse, a 14-ft. pole vaulter, may be the only Princetonian to snag a first place in the field events. Dave Bell was the Crimson's best against Brown with a good chance to run his victory total to an incredible six in two meets. He will compete in the shot put, hammer throw, and discus.
