Sailors Edged By M.I.T.; East Wins Swimming Title

Radcliffe sailers edged seven other women's schools but still placed second to M.I.T. in the annual spring New England Women's Intercollegiate Salling Association regatta on the Charles last Saturday.

Michele Disario, a junior, skippered the Cliffe's 14-foot. Interclub, with junior Linda Little and sophomore Hope McCundy as crew.

The regatta included nine separate races ever different courses on the river. Radcliffe placed consistently high among the nine teams, but lost all hope for first spot after the sixth race. It eventually finished six points behind the distaff Engineers.

B.U. placed third, and U.R.I., Emmanuel Emerson, Tufts-Jackson, Simmons, amd Connecticut College followed.

A pair of Radcliffe swimmers broke two pool records in the 'Cliffe's House swimming championship on Wednesday, as East House snatched every event but.

The final score west East, 44; North 28: and South, 17.

Kay Wester, a junior from North House, kept East from making a clean sweep by swimming the 20-yard butter-fly in 11 seconds flat, a new pool record. Halmed the other record when senior Jane Mansfield clocked a 20.4-second time for the 40-yard breaststroke.

Eleanor Thomas, the newly-elected freshman captain of the swimming team, won the 40-yard freestyle. Other events included the 80-yard medley, 30-yard individual medley, 40-yard backstroke, and 160-yard freestyle relay.

Marathon Swim

House meet ended the Radcliffe swimming season, which included the Cliffe's House marathon, April 11-15. endurance meet, North set a new marathon record with a total of 2331 lays.

Swimmers competed at the Radcliffe Pool during open hours, entering as many laps as they could swim toward their House total. Over the five days, 115 swimmers swam a total of over 62 miles. Freshman Anne Aylward registered the highest individual total, logging 416 laps.

Holmes Hall contributed the lion's share of North's total and could have won by itself with 2000 laps. East House placed second with 1908, and South lagged with 624.
