Swimmers Beat Columbia 60-35, Ready for Yale

In their final tuneup for next weekend's meeting with the Olympion-laden Yalies, Harvard's swimmers laced Columbia's apparently anesthetized Lions 60-35 Saturday afternoon at the IAB. Crimson coach Bill Brooks could have run up the score, but gave his second-line swimmers their last chance of the season to score instead.

The Crimson began the meet by gliding to an easy victory in the 400-yard medley relay. Brooks entered only one swimmer in the next event, the 200-yard freestyle. Bob Buster, in his first race since a bout with the flu, took second behind the Lions' Bill Damm. Andy Grinstead tore off with the 50 in moderate time, 23.5 seconds, as sophomore Dan Magraw was just touched out for second

Harvard lost only two of the remaining eight events, the dive and the 500-yard freestyle.

Henry Frey grabbed the lead in the opening butterfly leg of the 200-yard individual medley, and led Steve Bulloch to the first Harvard sweep of the meet. Neville Hayes preserved his unbeaten streak in the 200-yard butterfly and won going away in a relaxed 2:03.3

Senior Lincoln windmilled his way to another Crimson sweep in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in the fastest time of his career, 2:11.1.

Bob Corris didn't quite match his performance against Princeton in the 200-yard breaststroke. He glided past the 100-yard mark in 1:05.8, 1.3 seconds slower than he did when l et his record last weekend, but finished strong in 2:16.9, only .2 seconds off his week-old record.

The 400-yard freestyle relay didn't present much of a problem either as Jim Seubold, Andy Grinstead, Dick Saxe, and Bill Shrout won easily in 3:22.5. Shrout, in his only race of the afternoon, whipped through the anchor leg with no one near him in 48.2, seconds.
