Students at Harvard and Radclif will vote in a referendum today on whether to allow a permanent representatives from the 'Cliffe on the Harvard Policy Committee. The proposed amendment, which was unanimously approved by both the HPC and the Harvard Undergraduate Council would give Cliffies four votes on the council--three to students and one to Dean Eliot.
There is good reason for giving Cliffies a voice on the HPC. The committee recommends changes and improvements in curriculum, and since Cliffies share that curriculum, it is only logical that they should be given an opportunity to criticize and change it. A separate committee might provide the means of expression; but a single organization would better reflect the opinion of the Harvard-Radcliffe student body and would eliminate duplication of effort. The proposal would also facilitate the exchange of ideas which is vital to the improvement of courses.
