A heavily favored Harvard swimming team defeated Brown's outclassed Bruins last night at Providence, 69-26. Bill brooks's Crimson squad, tuning up for Saturday's meet with Cornell at Ithaca, on both relays and finished one-two in our other events.
The Crimson mermen clinched the meet after the eighth event, the 200-yard back-broke, won by senior Al Lincoln. The following event, the 500-yard freestyle, produced the only surprise of the evening as Brown's Dave Prior beat Harvard's Bob Buster.
The only other event Harvard lost was the dive, which Brown's Larry Rhoades book.
In the 200-yard individual medley, Steve Teaford broke into the winning column for the first time, and Bob Corris returned to the 200-yard breaststroke from his adventures as a freestyler and won predictably.
Shophomores Dan Magraw and Phil Chase also looked good, winning the 100-yard freestyle and 50-yard sprint, espectively. Bill Shrout returned to the 100-yard freestyle after spending a few meets as a sprinter and won easily. Neville Hayes continued his unbeaten skein his season in the 200-yard butterfly.
