The Yardling football squad will try to tip the balance of their 1-1-1 season record when they take on the Elis at 1:30 p.m. today on Soldiers' Field.
A Harvard win could tie it with Princeton for the League crown. The Yalies, who beat Harvard last year, stand now at 2-3, and this year it looks as if the Crimson has a slight edge.
Yale's big hope will be that it can beat Harvard in the air, relying heavily on its passing strength. The two men to watch will be Yale quarterback Dave Henley and Captain Lew Roney, end. Henley has completed 56 out of 111 passes, racking up 814 yards for the season. Koney has received 31 throws for 425 yards, and made 3 touchdowns.
The Yale freshmen, however, have lost their last three gams--to Cornell, Dartmouth, and Princeton. The Tigers blanked the Elis, 14-0, while the Yardlings managed to hold the favored Princeton squad to a 6-6 tie.
The Yalies have also lost three of their starting halfbacks--Rex Hinesley, Buzzy Potts, and Bill Harper. Steve Southwick moves up from the bench to replace Harper today.
Though the Harvard frosh got off to a slow start this season, they've caught on fire the last two weekends. After tying the Tigers, they overwhelmed Brown, 56-14. If quarterback Dave Smith, end Ray Hornblower, and the rest of the Yardlings can rally that kind of strength this time, they should win.
