President Bunting said Tuesday at a Radcliffe Government Association meeting that the new room and board rates will not affect Radcliffe's plans to allow about twenty Cliffies to live in off-campus apartments next semester.
At least 14 of the 20 seniors chosen for the experiment have already found apartments.
The girls were selected for the program on the basis of their maturity and "educational objectives," according to Susan Olson, Radcliffe Dean of Residence. They were notified of their selection the Friday before Christmas.
Miss Olson said that the committee of deans, which chose the girls plans to evaluate the program at the end of the term, asking the girls about the success of the experiment. "We haven't gone any farther in our thinking than that yet. Naturally, an evaluation will be very difficult," she added.
Girls applying for the off-campus permission had to write a letter explaining their reasons. Most said that they had outside activities, which kept them up to "odd hours" or away from the Radcliffe quad at meal times. One girl said, "I don't like feeling that I'm a student 24 hours a day. I hate the dorm atmosphere, even in an off-campus house."
