In Soldiers' Field at about 3 p.m. today, the track team begins its semi-annual, to-day demonstration of supremacy among Boston area cinder squads.

Today the Crimson squashes its neighbors in the field events. Tomorrow the Harvard runners mop up what's left.

The best event this afternoon looks like the hammer throw. John, Flore of Boston College, who recorded a toss over 190 ft. in the Penn Relays, will be a slight favorite over Crimson captain Art Croasdale and Northeastern's Bill Corsetti, the defending champion. Corsetti is currently hobbled by a sprained ankle and may not be in the best of form.

The broad jump is another virtual toss-up. Harvard's Aggrey Awori and Harvey Thomas are the only two competitors who have topped 22 ft. this spring, but B.C.'s Joe Kopka and B.U.'s Ed Johnson lead a host of 21 ft-plus jumpers who will be right at their heels.

Northeastern has the clear favorites in the javelin and the shot put. In the javelin, Dave Post throws consistently around the 200-ft, mark, far enough to leave the Crimson's Walt Campbell and Tony Kilkuskie and B.U.'s Tom Green scrambling for second place.

In the shot, the Eagles' Carl Wallin is a shoo-in for the win. B.C.'s Flore and Post, and Harvard's Ray Frieden and Tom Choquette are all near equals at the 50-ft. level.

Harvardmen hold the edge in the other field events. In the high jump, Chris Pardee, injured though he is, should have no trouble with competition. Northeastern's Rick Dupee and B.U.'s did Herman jump down around 6 ft. 3 in.

In the triple jump, Thomas and Olufemi Olunloyo hold a foot edge over B.C.'s Kopks and Dick Clarke, who have massaged 43 ft-plus efforts this spring.

John Bakkensen and Bill Pfeiffer should take one-two in the discus, and Crimson teammate John Micketts will battle Wall-in and Flora for third position. The Crimson edge in the pole vault is not so wide. Dave Bell and George Winters, the indoor Greater Boston champion, have both cleared 13 ft--6 in. higher than B.U.'s Jeff Blatt and Northeastern's Ed Speath.

In addition to the finals in all the field events, trials in the shorter running events are slated for this afternoon. Look for the Crimson to build up a solid margin after today's competition and watch the lead balloon when the runners take over the field tomorrow.
