Golfers Squeeze Past Brown, 4-3; 'Top Seeds' Win

The wind whipped vigorously off Narranansett Bay--not unlike Harvard's drives of the tee--as the Crimson golf team contested Brown yesterday 4-2.

Harvard's first four golfers, Brian McGuinn. Spoon Campen, Jim Buchanan, and Nike Millis, all won impressively, though Campen had to scramble a bit after being three down at the 10th hole. Buchanan won by the widest margin, 5 and 4, and shot the lowest round, a two-over-par 72.

The Crimson starters played so well that the match was won long before Harvard's last three golfer's finished their bounds. So each of the three let up in the absence of pressure and lost their matches.

The blow of losing was a bit softer for fifth man John Hawkins. He hit the shot of the day, a wedge out of the trap on the both that obligingly rolled into the cup feet away. Unfortunately, that gave only a par.

Harvard's golf team, is now breezing long with a 6-2 record, the best in several years for this early in the season.
