The varsity sailing team qualified for the finals of the New England Dinghy Championships by taking third in the eliminations held at the Coast Guard Academy Saturday.
In a field of seven boats, Tucker Emmett and Lang Rust placed fourth in A division, while Andy Kittler with Andy Mitchell as crew pulled a second in B division. Total points gave the Crimson the needed third place to qualify for the finals, to be held May 8 at Coast Guard.
In the NEISA single-handed championship eliminations on Sunday, Emmett qualified with a second place. In another heat being held at Tufts, Guy Carden placed third out of eight, barely missing qualification.
In a heat held at M.I.T., Crimson ace Time Prince won eight out of ten races. In one race he lost his main sheet and dropped to second place as he sailed the windward leg re-threading the sheet. He regained his lead on the leeward leg, however, and finished first despite the mishap.
