In an era when most cities are vainly fighting to hold down their tax rates. Cambridge Wednesday performed the miraculous by reducing its rate by $.60 to an even $72.
City Manager John J. Curry '19 announced that the City's services would not suffer as a result of the reduction. The lower rate was achieved despite pay raise amounting to $1.5 million and an increase in the City budget of $1,619,123.
New construction, adding approximately $5 million to the City's tax base, enabled Curry to lower the rate and still collect the higher revenue.
