Two buses carrying 100 students from seven area colleges left Boston from the Federal Building last right to join in to SNCC-sponsored demonstration in Washington today. The demonstrators will demand Federal intervention in Alabama and Mississippi.
As the buses pulled away 150 more students began a 43-hour vigil at the Federal Building in support of the Washington demonstration.
The Washington-bound students will join SNCC supporters who will arrive from other Eastern cities in the Capital this morning.
SNCC officials at the Federal Building last night would not give details of the Washington demonstration, but Claude L. Weaver '65-3, captain of one of the buses, said that the demonstrators would converge on the White House. "There may be civil disobedience or there may not," he continued.
John A. Hornick, a student at Tufts and a member of the committee which organized the vigil, said that it will go on continuously until 10 p.m. Thursday.
The 150 students in the vigil formed a line which extended completely around the Federal Building. Most of these marchers were expected to go home in a few hours, but many will return for another shift today or tomorrow.
