Med School Will Get Its Own Coop Branch

The Harvard Cooperative Society yesterday announced plans to build a fourth store, at the Medical School.

The store will be located in a building planned for completion in 1967 at the Children's Medical Center in Boston. It will be half the size of the Harvard Square store and will sell books, stationary and school supplies, and men's and women's clothing.

The Coop now opens a temporary branch at the Medical School for a month each September. A permanent branch was established in the early 1900's but there was not enough business to maintain it.

According to General Manager John G. Morrill, a consumer survey showed "a real need at this time" for the new store.

Besides the Square store, the Coop has branches at M.I.T. and the Business School. The volume of sales for the three stores totaled over $10 million in 1964. A special report released this week announced that December 1964 was the biggest month in the Coop's 82-year history.
