MEANINGLESS POLL

The Mail

To the Editors of the CRIMSON:

Whatever the result of Thursday's HCUA student government poll--and this is written before it is known--it must be meaningless. The HCUA asked two questions: 1) "Shall the HCUA be abolished, and 2) be replaced by the HUC and the HPC?" Unfortunately, they only provided space for one answer, YES or NO. Assuming HCUA members are intelligent enough to realize this inconsistency, they clearly chose to renege on a previous promise to allow the students to express a meaningful consensus on the future of student government at Harvard. We can only hope that the efforts of the study committee that produced the new proposal will not be wasted, and that we will all have the opportunity to make our opinion known--precisely.
