Coop to Confront Textbook Issue

The Harvard Cooperative Society face a challenge by Sheldon Dietz '41 and a protest over textbook shortages today at its annual membership meeting.

Dietz, who challenged the Coop's nominees for its Board of Directors last year with a slate of his own, said Monday he has no plans to speak at the meeting. But he added that he might respond to questions about the Coop's Palmer Street annex, which he has been battling for 19 months.

A letter assailing "inefficiency and chaos reigning in the Coop's textbook area" will be read at the meeting by Daniel C. Goldfarb Jr. '66, president of the Harvard Undergraduate Council. The HUC will offer to meet with Coop directors to discuss the problem of textbook supply, Goldfarb said.

The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. in Harvard Hall 1.
