Mississippi justice caught up with another Harvard civil rights worker Tuesday.
Peter Cummings '65 was driving to a freedom school in Benton City when his car slid on some gravel on a curve of deserted Marshall County Road. The car flipped over, knocking down a few trees. Cummings suffered minor cuts and bruises when his knee went through the windshield, but was able to continue on to the freedom school after local Negroes helped him get his car back on the road.
Twenty-five minutes after he arrived at the freedom school, Cummings was arrested on charges of reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident. A charge of obstructing justice was tagged on later when Cummings refused to answer questions until he had the right of counsel.
Cummings was released from jail on $500 bail Wednesday.
