Crimson sailors will enter qualifying regattas for two North American championships this weekend.
On Sunday, eight Harvard single-handed specialists will enter the first elimination round of the O'Day Cup competition, a continental talent search designed to select the United States' Olympic Finn Dinghy team.
The Crimson's chief hope in this series is Tim Prince, a junior who placed third in New England last year and just missed qualifying for the collegiate finals. Prince has been sailing extremely well recently, and since the two helmsmen who beat him last year have graduated, he must be rated a strong favorite.
Prince, senior Dave Gantz, and Ned Butler travel to Yale Saturday for the first round of the North American Collegiate Dinghy Championship. Harvard has placed second in this competition for the past two years, but will be hard pressed to do as well this time.
