Room rent for 'Cliffies who must stay in Cambridge during Spring Vacation has been reduced to $5.
Members of the administration made the decision to reduce vacation boards several days ago. Since all other dorms are closed during the spring recess, 'Cliffies who are unable to leave Cambridge must stay in Comstock Hall, where the rent for a week's time was formerly $10.
Mrs. John Knott, senior resident of Comstock, commented yesterday that this indicates "a trend toward the Harvard system at Radcliffe." She also said that within the next few years it is possible that the other dorms will remain open, at no additional fee, during the spring recess.
The administration has been considering the rent reduction for some time, Mary H. Winslow, director of Residence, said. "This seemed a propitious time to lower the rent" since annual room rents are about to go up, she added. In the near future, members of the administration will probably review the vacation housing system, Miss Winslow noted.
Presently, many head residents leave Cambridge during the vacation.
