Cambridge police have urged motorists to stay off Cambridge streets today. And to enforce their recommendation they will completely foul up the usual traffic pattern in the Harvard Square vicinity to ensure that the foolhardy suffer.
Between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. and again from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. the following changes will be in effect:
* Massachusetts Ave., from Quincy St. to Brattle Square will be one way west.
* Mt. Auburn St. will be one way in the opposite direction (east) from Brattle Square to Putnam St.
* Boylston St. will be closed to auto traffic from Harvard Square to the Charles River.
* Cars will not be allowed to enter Harvard Square from the North. All traffic coming down Massachusetts Ave. from Porter Square and all traffic on Garden St. will be required to use Broadway.
